The River

This piece touches on the above. Open it when you’re ready.
The water is swirling dangerously around me as I fight to stay above the water.
I hear the violent and deafening crashing of waves…. then silence as I plunge under the icy water.
Now I’m being flipped upside down, round and round, unable to stop, running out of out, out of, of… of …out…. of…. breath…..
Trying….
Trying to reach where air meets water. My hand emerges.
I lay back, floating, on the water.
I take a deep breath of of fresh, beautiful, clean, clear, wonderful air. I start to swim towards the bank of the river.
Another wave washes over me; I’m swept down the river. I take a final deep breath.
Knowing I will never win this war.
As the water washes around me, I surrender. With grace.
I will find peace if I accept defeat, knowing very soon that the river will claim me.
